Alex is not doing great. They always sleep, they barely eat, and they’re almost assuredly going to fail a class. Following an impromptu trip to the emergency room and a concerning diagnosis, Alex’s life and sense of reality begin to spiral even more out of control. But, of course, there’s nothing that their new happy pills can’t fix. At least, that’s what everyone else says. As Alex struggles to make it minute-to-minute, they and a Chorus of others like them come to realize that sometimes the only person who can save you is yourself. Happy Pills is a one-act reflection on mental illness, student life, and the challenging art of surviving young adulthood.
