‘I’m a perfect duplicate of myself. Everything about my new body is identical to my original body. It just so happens that I was built from scratch this afternoon.’
Carbon Copy is a sci-fi thought experiment. Esther and Truman are having a romantic meal, when Truman reveals that he has managed to create a perfect duplicate of himself. In the process of doing this, however, his original body was destroyed. Esther must work out: Is the man sitting across the table her husband? And if he isn’t, can she still love him?
