A twist on the classic Greek tale of the Odyssey, Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Penelopiad’ recounts the story of Penelope, wife of Odysseus, as she awaits his return from the Trojan War.

Twelve young maids are recruited to help her in fending off unwanted suitors, but tragedy awaits and as fate intervenes, Penelope’s plans unravel.

Reflecting on her story from the underworld of Hades, Penelope must take responsibility for her actions in the power struggles and unfortunate events that emerge.
