Introduction to Karnataka Music is a pilot project by stage@leeds Associate Artists Devika Dance Theatre and musician and actor Shree Harsha. This lecture demonstration, which is aimed at musicians, theatre practitioners and dance students is open to all and will introduce participants to the basic concepts of Raga (melodic framework) and Bhava (emotion) of Indian Classical Music. Conducted in two sessions the Raga session will explore the basic concept of a Raga, the formation, technical approach, moods, rasa (aesthetic flavour), emotions and the establishment of Raga along with a singing demonstration. The Bhava session will help students understand the various emotions and thought processes during Sanchari bhava (the dynamic emotive part of dance) along with Indian aesthetics and a practical dance demonstration.

About Shree Harsha: Sri Harsha is an Indian singer who gained popularity in the Kannada Film Industry. In the starting stage of his career, Harsha was trained by Vidushi Ramagururachar for five years while he was under the training of Dr. VID. R.S. Nandakumar for nine years.

Sri Harsha is not just a vocalist but also an actor. He played many roles as a child in plays directed by Sri Mandya Ramesh. He was winner of the State Level Best Child Actor 2006 award. Sri Harsha is a versatile singer and winner of the Nation Level AIR Competitions for three years consecutively from 2013 - 2015.  He had won the title of Voice of Bangalore season7, and was runner up of the Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa season 13. Shree is also an accomplished keyboard player.
