Suburbanites Laurence and Beverley Moss are getting ready to entertain in their Essex home but with Laurence’s workaholic attitude and Beverley’s hen pecking the evening is set in tension. With the arrival of new neighbours, Angela, Tony and long-standing neighbour and single mother Susan, this awkward congregation of strangers reluctantly come together in an alcohol infused inter-marital battle of willpowers and flirtations.

Mike Leigh’s hilarious representation of the new 70’s middle class reveals the fears, obsessions, preconceptions and pure outrageousness of its seemingly superficial characters.
